Howdy!
My name is Thomas De La Garza. I became a counselor because I have seen the incredible power of vulnerability, connection, and the story of our lives. I see my role as a counselor here at Rivers Edge in College Station as walking with clients through the hardest parts of their stories. We journey together, grieving the things too hard to face alone and celebrating the breakthroughs previously thought to be impossible. I am typically the right match for clients looking to answer some of life's biggest questions. Questions of existence. "Who am I? Why am I here? What am I doing? What does my story mean?" If that resonates with you then I'm probably a good fit as your counselor!
And lest you think we spend most of our sessions in the clouds answering questions of a philosophical nature, many find the work we do together to be really practical as we search for that application of what we learn about you through your story. I find that we do our best work when we translate the insights you gain into practical behavioral change.
As a counselor I have experience with teens, college-age, and adult men. My heart beats to walk alongside clients in many areas but some of my favorite and most skilled areas are identity issues, anxiety, depression, and sexual addiction. All of us need someone on our team. We need an extra set of eyes and ears to help us see our story and our patterns where they are and be curious how those could be different. When we do see that, we can begin to break those old habits and hang-ups and write a new story. Begin that journey today toward insight and understanding.
When I'm not counseling you may find me bouldering, taking off an adventure (usually out of College Station) and being creative. I try to strike a nice balance of work and play!
I am a Licensed Professional Counseling Associate supervised by Josh Berger, LPC-S.
