About Me

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Lao Tzu

Whether you’re beginning counseling for the first time or feel like you’ve been on this journey for years, I’d be honored to walk alongside you. I offer individual counseling in Boerne as well as couples counseling in Boerne and virtual counseling for clients anywhere in Texas.

Before becoming a counselor, I worked in outdoor camping ministry at Pine Cove, group team building, and church ministry—experiences that deepened my passion for helping people grow through challenges. Outside of counseling, you’ll probably find me hunting, flying planes recreationally, or spending time with my wife and kids. If I were given an afternoon to myself (hard to come by in the grammar school years), you’ll likely find that I reorganized the garage, mowed the lawn, half started multiple projects and dreamed about starting 3 businesses. What a gift it is to let the mind wander.

Your first session

You can expect our first session to feel relaxed and conversational. I won’t overwhelm you or your teenager with endless questions. Most often, I’ll simply begin with, “What brings you in?” and we’ll start from there.

Together, we’ll work to clarify what’s going on in your life and where you’d like to see growth. From that understanding, we’ll create a plan to move toward healing, change, relief, or simply a deeper sense of being understood. Many of the teens, adults, and couples I meet with need what we all need—to be truly heard. That’s the foundation of our time together.

My Approach

I draw on both experience and research to help normalize what you’re going through and to make sure you don’t feel stuck. There’s nothing worse than wanting to move forward but you have a thousand pound weight attached to your leg. One of my favorite moments in counseling is actually once we get to the end. It’s a joy to me when you reach the place of saying, “I think I’m doing well.” I believe in starting with the end in mind—a day when you don’t feel the need to come in weekly, but rather as needed. In my practice, I call those moments graduations. I don’t have a timer running with a shot clock and there are no grades for therapy. We go at your pace, and the goal is progress that feels meaningful to you.

I enjoy working with clients who want to better understand and manage their emotions—especially folks who tend to keep feelings “stuffed down” or who don’t really know they have anything “down there.” If you relate to the “Ron Swanson type,” you’ll likely find my approach down-to-earth and relatable.

Areas of Focus

****A word about Neurofeedback. If you’ve never heard of this you are not alone. Neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback that’s been around for quite a while and allows one to retrain their brain patterns using EEG Brain Imaging to guide the training. Check this out to help understand it better. It has been shown to help with anxiety, depression, ADHD, insomnia, bipolar, emotional regulation, attention and focus. It’s a bit different from traditional therapy though so I offer brief consults for neurofeedback to help you understand what it is and how it works.
